Welcome to the HGH Club Northeast!

We are a full member club of the Working Dog Club of America (WDA). We are located in Knowlton, NJ, and hold an HGH trial each year in October.

Large Flock Herding

Also known as "tending," this style of herding was developed in Europe several hundred years ago.

The dogs work as a living fence, patrolling the borders of a designated area, while the flock grazes undisturbed. The dog is also required to move the flock from pasture to pasture, in and out of pens, over bridges, and along roads.

Kergloff Farm

Located in Knowlton, NJ, Kergloff Farm compromises 242 acres, about 90 of which is usable pasture. The flock is owned by Geary Loff, and consists of about 80 Texel/Dorper crosses and purebred Dorpers, along with various numbers of ewe lamb breeding prospects each year. Lambing occurs in late April into May and increases the flock size to 200+ during the five to six months lambs are grown and finished on spring/summer/fall pasture.

Bella the Maremma The flock is tended for several hours each day by Geary and his beaucerons, and is guarded from predators by Bella the Maremma when not being tended.

Interested in Training?

This style of herding is appropriate for "tending" breeds only. Currently, German Shepherds and Beaucerons are training at our club. Other tending breeds include Briards, Belgian Shepherds (all varieties), and Dutch Shepherds. If you're interested in training, read over the training page for more information about what is involved.

Our second annual HGH trial was a huge success! Five dogs trialed and all five passed. Congrats to everyone, and many thanks to Herr Gerd Jahnke for coming out from Germany to judge our trial!
